Movie Night!

Posted by: Kelley on Tuesday, March 25th, 2008

Well technically it is not a ‘movie’ but season 1 of a series.  But Watching-some-of-a-season-of-a-TV-show Night just doesn’t have the same ring to it doncha think?

We are stocked up on munchies, Boo had a sleep during the day while I was at work (rat-fuck-son-of-a-bitch) so it is gunna be a late night anyway… so after much obsessional raving discussion of the show over at Aussie Bloggers I decided to buy this:

dexter_s1.jpg

Hmmm.  Apparently it is about a serial killer that kills serial killers.

Too was with me when I bought it.  She was all ‘I am not carrying THAT‘ and ‘Is that even his ARM?!‘  and  ‘OMG (yes, she actually said OMG) that is like a dead arm isn’t it?‘ and then ‘awesome‘.

Yes, she is my baby.  Might have something to do with the fact I was obsessed with the book Helter Skelter and listening to the White Album when I was pregnant with her.  And wanted to call her Tate, after Sharon, but MPS wouldn’t let me when my friend told him where I got the name.  Fucking biatch.

And as an aside, the book of choice with Moo was ‘American Psycho’ smuggled into Australia (it was banned at the time) by my I’m-not-gay-well-maybe-just-a-little-on-the-weekends friend.  I must say I was rather impressed with the characters skin care routine, and his use of rats.

Ironically, I read ‘What to expect when you are expecting’ and other baby oriented books with Boo.  My THIRD child.

Yeah, I am a freaky chick.  You love it.

I spent most of my youth terrified of horror movies.

My teen years obsessed with them.  To the extent of wanting to be a horror makeup artist.

My twenties living it with Exorcist baby Moo, Freddy skin Too and little baby Damien Boo.

And the last few years with MPS fucking Sybil.

But I have always had a penchant for the midday movie fiend.  The he-was-such-a-nice-guy-and-quiet but hiding his lunch of tongue with a side order of pancreas in the tool shed kinda story.  Making ‘eating with your fingers’ a whole new kinda weird.

Perhaps that is why I carry bits of my kids around in my purse.  A tooth, an umbilical cord clamp and a first blood from the heel prick soaked tissue, laminated.  From a 9, 14 and 16 year old.

And grab my children with a squeal of ‘you are so cute I want to eat you, on toast, with a nice Chianti’

Yes.  I believe this will be my type of bedtime story.

Now off to eat crap and watch some guy think with a dead dudes arm.

Oooh, you are going to love it! Well, I hope it lives up to the hype for you anyway. Too much build up might ruin it…

I have season 1 of Dexter somewhere, my daughter gave it to me, because we are so much alike with our love of the gruesome. I’ve only watched the first episode though. I must get back to it soon. We both love CSI too, the gorier the better. All of mine watched horror movies from the time they were little, they’d turn off the lights and huddle up on the couch fully prepared to scare themselves silly. Amazingly none of them ever had nightmares. Probably because they knew it wasn’t real although they knew that real things like this do happen. Way back in the eighties their favourite movie was Blood Beach, they still talk about it occasionally. And they loved FX-Murder By Illusion.

Guera: I didn’t read much of the thread purely cause I didn’t want to spoil it. Am up to ep 2. Lovin’ it.

River: You need to watch it woman! And at the end of episode 1 remember this. At the end MPS turned to each other and said ‘Wanna play?’ and I told Too that I would come in to her in the middle of the night and whisper it in her ear. She shit herself! LMAO

Casdok: Um fun? Yeah maybe. But shit it was funny!

A: I am totally hardcore. ;)

I KNEW you were going to love it! LOL

Who was the idiot that let Boo sleep this afternoon?

I still haven’t seen it yet. As for the freaky things you carry around. Respect! I always liked Angelina’s vial of billy Bob’s blod. Things like that make sense to me. (Pity about all the other things I don’t understand.) ;)

OMG! “serial killer that kills serial killers?” I’m so intrigued now! I would have seriously had the same series of reactions as Boo, lol :)

This is just about to start over here, there’s a trailer between every programme… not really my bag I suspect, too much scope for thinly veiled American-style introspection amongst the juicy murders.

I hope you enjoyed the gore fest though!

Cheers

I’ve heard lots of things about Dexter…looks interesting! Thats the guy from Six Feet Under, right? LOVED that show!

When I read the exorcist in high school I would rearrange my bedroom furniture during the night….like move it allllll around my room and then get dressed in my uniform and get back into bed and go back to sleep. I never finished the book. The movie made me laugh.

I’ve never been one for horror for the sake of horror, it has to have you know, a higher purpose or sumpthin.

Right now we are blasting through season 3 of Battlestar Galactica, cuz I am a big sci fi geek.

Hell, even my 84 yr old Dad loves the show!

Ooh!!! I absolutely *adored* “Helter Skelter” in a creepy sort of obsessed with the weird shit, way. I was in junior high, even!!!

And, hey… I always tell my kids, as I’m squeezing their cute little butts, that I’m gonna “sop ‘em up with a biscuit!” (I’m in Oklahoma, ya know :p)

How’s that for weird, freaky, stay-away-from-my-kids strange???!!!

Enjoy!!! :)

I love Dexter. Well, I did love Dexter. Until our free Showtime preview stopped about 5 weeks into the first season.

And I haven’t seen it since.

I’m so going to buy the set! (And seriously, I love how you worked pancreas and carrying around baby parts into this!) Snort.

Goaldeebug: That would have been MOTY. She has a death wish, I am thinking bitter almond tart…

Cerebralmum: I am so like Angelina! I have arms and legs…

tys: I like the way your mind works.

Sandy: It is awesome and win. As the cool kids say, the cool kids being me…

Babychaos: You need to watch it. Seriously.

Alison: The movie scared the living shit out of me. I was the same age as Reagan. And apparently looked a lot like her. Or maybe people told me that to fuck with my mind?

Sensitiva: The first ep was fabulous.

Solomon: Woos.

Xbox4NappyRash: Um, not sure. WHAT are you talking about? Stone fruit?

Karen: Yeah, I am all kinds of freaky.

Marita: So far I am! I am thinking of making Dexter for President shirts. Whatcha think?

Gina: I have no words. I am a little scared.

Jayne: *snort* I get that!

Jodie: I am so going to use that. It will totally freak out my kids cause here in Oz a ‘biscuit’ is a cookie!

Ree: Why don’t you steal cable? Isn’t that what you Americans do?

Ann: Why don’t you steal hers? And then leave a mutilated DVD wrapped in red ribbon in her freezer?

Dexter ROCKS! I missed this when it was on Showtime, but now regular television is showing it (edited for primetime viewing of course) and it is awesome! I could eat Michael C. Hall up. Although he would probably repeat on me.

I have been watching this too. I loooove it. I’m also that girl who liked Helter Skelter and American Psycho and all the rest.
